So I decided to give this game a "spin"

I got interested from seeing some Tribes Ascend stuff, but since I am not a PC gamer at heart, though I may be in the future (yes, go ahead, laugh at me), I couldn't really play it on my crap computer. So I first downloaded Tribes 1, but decided to also try Tribes 2 when I heard it COULD be played online.

...and inevitably, I am terrible. I found where the actual people are (Goon Haven, woo!), and I have managed to start going at some halfway decent speeds and even occasionally getting 10+ kills per match, which, trust me, is huge at my level. I'm just wondering if you guys have some pointers or community suggestions, or more simply, if there's anyone interested in playing and showing me around a bit -- or just shooting me in the face with a disc. I can tell this place isn't very active, but I am really really impressed with the game itself, and I'm having a ton of fun even though I'm absolutely worthless at it.

If this gets any responses, I will be very happy. Thanks!

  • id like to join a server with you and show you around, hook you up with all the useful scripts etc. the game is huge and even after a year of playing you still learn new things, thats what makes it great.

i dont have much time atm cause im moving and dont have inet at the new place just yet so it may take a while.
  • check out the tribes2 forums on www.teamwarfare.com, the community is more active there.
  • Hey, nice to have you. T2 is a great game (probably the greatest but that might be T1 in the old days).

If you ever have questions or comments on Goon Haven, there are forums here:
    http://www.goonhaven.org/
    and stats here:

And here is a sort of beginner's guide:

There's an active competition community at TWL (see Fling's link above) and those guys all hang out on IRC. You can usually get some pretty good help/advice there if you mention that you're new and are prepared to take a little teasing from time to time.
  • I'm also very new and I'd like somone to help me out, what are scripts?
  • I'm also very new and I'd like somone to help me out, what are scripts?
They're basically files that modify your game. They can change your HUD, track kills, do custom voices, etc. Some are very useful, awhile some can be considered cheating... but it's all debatable.
  • Can you give/tell me the best ones, I would really like to change my HUD some weapons skins and sounds.
Also is there any graphical advancements?
  • RosoDude.... The next Tribes 2 Tourney starts very soon and the signups start next week. Go to http://teamwarfare.com/forums/forumdisplay.asp?ForumID=4 for all the signup info.

Tournaments are a lot of fun as it is in the cooperative play that the dynamic teamwork of Tribes 2 really shines. Also you will be surrounded by veteran players and you will learn a lot very quickly.

SluUX.... I don't use any weapon skins or sound packs myself but many do. The scripts I use are more practical.

I use a DropperTimer.Vl2 which puts a little countdown timer on my HUD so I know when it is going to return after being dropped in the field.

I also use BuddyPoints.VL2 which lets me waypoint my entire team from the Command Screen. This is mainly useful for competition games.

I use hidechainret.VL2 which makes my chaingun reticle vanish when I start firing, which allows me to focus on the tracers much easier.

I use an edited version of BorNotify.vl2 which alerts team mates automatically via the voice menu when I repair or blow up something (like the gens of vpad). I had to edit it because every time I would die it would say "Get the Enemy Flag or Destroy the Enemy Generator" so I cut that bit out.

I use Interpolate.vl2 which helps with chaingun accuracy because it helps show a players real position on a server by reducing the "smoothing factor" that the T2 engine uses make the game look smoother (players will move a little more jerky when their is lag).

I also use WheelZoom.vl2 so I can roll my mouse wheel to adjust my zoom level.

Support.Vl2 is a script which you need to install as that gives you the browser option menu that some scripts require.

You'll find most of the T2 scripts here.

  • I like the support one and the interpolate one, the link says he deleted the page?
Also are there any HUD mods/scripts?
  • Go to that link and click SLINGS SCRIPTS

then type in the script name and it should find it.
  • Also is there any graphical advancements?

Those are limited to the game engine, and since we cannot 'upgrade' the engine without the T2 source it's sad to say that we cannot...
Some people have made Hi-Res Skins but they don't really add much.

Here are the scripts I run: http://tribes.m-parsons.com/Scripts/TerrorToesPack/Base/

You can find all sorts of HUDs out there and skins as well. There have been 1,300+ *player* skins used on Goon Haven since we started tracking them.
  • I have a script site here.

    Get support.vl2 before anything else.
