problem connecting to LAN server

I set up a dedicated LAN server on my basement computer so me and my brother could play on our laptops, and it shows up on the server list, but when i try to connect, it tells me that it is a tribesnext server, and to visit this site for more info on the tribesnext client, which it tells me i need to install. So i installed the multiplayer patch (tribesnext_rc2a), and i still get the same error message. Any ideas?

    Ensure that you're clicking on the LAN shortcut. Or, if you're using a custom one, make sure -nologin is one of the parameters, preferably first. TribesNext does not run on LAN servers.

    thanks i'll try this once this storm passes.. my comp i'm using as a server isnt on a surge protector so i need to shut down during storms
