Port forward?

Hello. I am a big fan of this game, in fact, it is one of the first fps games I have ever played, and the first 3D fps game ever played. One of the best games in my opinion.

I come here to ask a question. Does this game needs to be Port Forwarded? If so, can I have the port forward address? Is there anything I should know?

Also, do I need to download those custom maps first before I can play them?

    Ports only need to be forwarded if you will be hosting a server accessible to the internet, in which case 28000 will need forwarding. If you're not going to be hosting a public server, you don't need to forward anything.

    As for maps, it depends on the map. Some/most maps are serverside which means they'll load just fine on your client (but you can't use them in a hosted server). Some other maps are clientside which would need to be downloaded prior to joining the server. I believe if you need to download a map it'll tell you.
