What role were you?

Man, it's been forever since I played T2...good times. Anyways, I was just remembering the roles/tactics I did and was just thinking of the huge number of gameplay possibilities this game had. I wanted to know what everyone else usually did.

Me, what I remember most was being support and defense, with attacking whenever I felt like it. I would be juggy, meticulously putting motion sensors, turrets, and deployable stations around for defense of generators. It was kinda boring, but I knew how gameplay was without working generators.

I would also set up the MPB in a good spot, mark it, and deploy stuff to defend it. What was really cool though was getting a transport ready and carrying 5 juggys straight into the interior of the enemy base. =D

I also remember how I used to piss off the other team by taking out their generator. I think the map's name was quagmire? It had a tower way off to the side with one generator in it. I would put a deployable station behind the hils, mark it, and come back as a lightweight guy ( I forgot the name). I'd kill the generator, then toss a satchel charge on top of it, and (I don't know if it was specifically with the mod I was playin) I would toss a deployable camera into the room. I'd go back and go into the command screen and watch thru the camera as ppl would come and fix it. I'd wait for it to be fixed, wait for them to leave, then blow it up. I'd immediately come back in, toss another satchel charge and camera, and run away back to the deployable station and let the cycle continue.

God I miss this game.

  • Oh another thing I remember is in that grassy map with the flag in the middle of the courtyard of the square building. I would come in as a medium guy with a deployable inventory thru the front left window. The room right above had a inventory station. In that room, right above the inventory station there was a small itty bitty ledge. I'd put the station on there. Keep in mind this is the left side while looking at the front of the base, the right side had that open door and was way too crowded/used with enemies. I'd come back as a light, and proceed to annihilate their gens. I had to be really damn careful and quick, I couldn't let them follow me back to the inventory station. They never used that left side.

Sneaking around the enemy base with all the lights off is both terrifying and thrilling. =)

    That map is called Sanctuary
  • My favorite by far will always be dueling on T2 Demo. Even though it was lacking people.. all the people who played were pretty cool. Always had a jolly time.
  • my role is tribes rabbi
  • I generally like to roll in the Beowolf. It is/was a very misunderstood vehicle. It was my forté. With a good teammate/gunner/repair guy, you had a pretty nasty machine.

The big trick was understanding how the collision detection was coded on the wirefames/textures. That is to say, some collisions/missiles would create more damage on the "strong spots" then they should. Yes, I understand that every vehicle has strong/weak spots, but the Tank was a bit different. In any case, I pretty much considered that my right hand...when I wasn't strokin' it, that is! heheh

I also prided myself on being a bombadier. Combined with a good pilot, we could wreak havoc. Now, people say it isn't that big of a deal, but I would beg to differ; you can't just bomb-bukkake an enemy base randomly - you have to understand the most efficient usage of your payload and where to strategicly place you bombs for maximum effect during your runs. Combined with an expert escort, it could be a game-breaker on certain maps (Circle of Stones, anybody?)

Anyhow, I played those a lot. I also had no problem in the support role of base/gen repair, etc. One good thing about T2 which is muted in a lot of other games is the complex permutations of teamwork that could lead to victory. Teamwork = win.

  • I was normally the pussy of whatever team I was on, playing Light D with some sniping mixed in.

Eventually, I started trying my hand at flag running, which turned out ok, but not compared to many others.
  • I love, love, LOVE to be a Gunship Pilot. There is nothing, to me, like playing ferryman for the rest of the team, shuttling forward players to their destinations throughout the match. I've enjoyed just about every aspect of the team, notably excepting Heavy Assault, which I'm not so good at, but Gunship Pilot ranks #1 with Forward/Field Engineer a close second.
  • Turret monkey :) Mouting missle barrels on all turrets and supporting them with missle launcher :)

Love that view of escaping capper with 6 missles on a tail :)
  • turret monkey,Gen d pr base rapper on the ground in the air bomber or tg I remember that one map that had no shrikes on it and we couls bomber duel that was the shit had some good times fighting ABM on that one.pretty good tank driver better gunner
  • Mostly played "fill in" type roles that were dictated by base or flag conditions, my M.O. was to assist where ever and when ever needed. One minute helping with deployment, the next vehicle expedition or go on a flag run to knock it off the enemy stand. Our group of players would adhere to reacting to prevailing conditions and work as a cohesive unit. Five guys setting up initial defensive equipment can get a lot done in a shorter period than one or two lone farmers. If the enemy defense put up a good resistance, then a ride with the rape train was in order to put some extra hurt on the enemy assets, then camp out in the basement for a little thorn in the side time. If our team was running out of game clock and needed to get that one flag cap to win, I would run intercept or flag cap assist. I also worked the CC quite a bit identifying incoming enemy vehicles and defensive assests.

The amazing thing about this game is the full on variation of what one can do in game, especially when you have been gamming with a tight group of players for sometime. I think they call it...

    Team Work. ;)
  • my role was standing on a hill with a missile launcher on Ewo
