Dammit!
False alarm people. False alarm.
You can go home now.
OOOOOooOoOoOOooo strikey!!!!
in after rage.
I'm hoping that eventually Goon Haven players will come to the realization that contributing to the team and team interaction is what tribes 2 is all about. It's only a matter of time, stay optimistic.
...Yeah. I can't tell you how many times I've been teamkilled by a mortar that would only damage me and nobody else, as there were no enemies for miles.
People also find it funny to ram me with hover bikes for lulz. I've died to more teamkills than to actual deaths from enemies.
Why team damage is on and continues to stay on is beyond my thinking.
=D
I keep getting ignored by some of you, but I'll keep asking: I'd like to know what I have done, as the Goon Haven owner and operator, that has offended or disgraced you. If you've been TK'd... welcome to a public server, what does that have to do with Goons? I have more admins now, those people are more likely to be kicked. I'd like to remind you that the only difference between a goon and anyone on this message board is that we read DIFFERENT INTERNET FORUMS.
I've spent my time and money on this server to make it the smoothest playing experience for all members of the Tribes community (which, for the nth time, I was a Tribes player long before being a "goon"). I have a 50-man ventrilo server that I'll be opening to the public when I host an upcoming tournament.
So please let me know where I'm the asshole for trying all I can to support the Tribes community and where any of you detractors have done anything OTHER than bitch about every little thing.
I'm sure the majority of the tribes2 community appreciates your server and all the people it brings in. The T2 player base definitely wouldn't be where it is now if it weren't for the SA exposure.
I'm proud that I'm able to contribute and give something back to the Tribes community. I still remember seeing Tribes 1 when it was a new release... walking up to it in Best Buy (confused that it said "Starsiege"... I'd loved Earthsiege)... and thinking I'd found the perfect game. Over 10 years later, here we are. It's pretty cool.
64 is too cluttered to have team damage on. It's too hard to differentiate an accidental teamkill when on defense. However when on offense and no enemies around, it's blatantly obvious but when I spoke up nobody acted. Oh...I got warned, and the typical "don't walk into that mortar then" or "get used to it" by players I see play there on a frequent basis.
I have stopped connecting to the server since.
Now if you calmly asked an admin if team damage could be remove and you were warned... there's a place to complain about that. I'm sure you can find the thread quite easily. However I've never seen someone warned for casually asking a question.
Basically I don't think I can help you with this one. It sounds like you had one or two bad games and then stopped liking the server. Sorry. Maybe you'll like my other ones... or not. I'll just keep tweaking and asking people "How am I doing?" until there are no more players.
That being said I always thought it was best to have team damage off on public servers and leave it on for the comp servers .With TD off its alot more noob friendly.I just dont get the complaining about if you dont like it give him some suggestions dont bitch at him about it that wont help anything.
If you still dont like it here is an idea put up your own server and you deal with it. Sometimes running a server can be a thankless job thebeaz you can never please everybody so dont even try to.BTW do you have some type of forums so that people can get in touch with you for suggestions and such? keep up the good work.
I understand that there's a lot of splash damage going around, and considering I place very little value on my lifespan between spawns, I really don't care if anyone TKs me, as long as it's not intentional. Indeed, I tend to yell [VGS Sorry!] when TKed, because I'd rather my teammate not be penalized for hitting me with splash. If it's clearly intentional (i.e. the bastard TKs me right in front of me), I won't be so apologetic.
I wonder if every now and then we could disable Team Damage, maybe on a map by map review (certain maps being too small to allow high amounts of accidental TKing), just to see if it improves gameplay at all. But I think that decision would be best left to the admins present on the server, since votes are either shot down or pass with an immediate reinstating of TD anyway.
I love the Goon Haven server (contrary to my less-informed comments about it in earlier posts, of which I'm fairly ashamed), and pretty much never play anywhere else. Sure I sit out the odd match but at least I spend that time observing everything I can. Everybody here has their opinions, and are certainly willing to share it with everyone. Let's keep it civil, and if we must flame each other, just do it in game.
Still, it would save people from shit like being backlanced by your own teammates when queuing up at the vpad or dying to mortar spam at home due to hyperactive defending heavies, even if it wouldn't stop stupid people blowing up your own assets with inconsiderate mortar spam.
Personally I don't see them "problem" with having TD off - there's only a few maps where it impacts gameplay in a really negative way, and those could always be dealt on a case-by-case basis by changing the maps to turn team damage on whenever they're run and off again when they end. People worrying about spam defences and whatever should first worry about what type of server they happen to be playing on first and foremost IMO.
I say it wouldn't hurt to at least try turning TD off for one day just to see how things play out.
Blindkilla, I have a thread on these forums and on the Something Awful forms specifically for comments/questions/suggestions/complaints. Feel free to post anything server related there. I'm working on servers in other games (TF2, Left4Dead, Blockland, etc) and as they come up (and stay up) I'll eventually open my webspace and maybe even have a "Goon Haven" related message board (though by that time Goon Haven will just be a name and not just for Goons).
I will clear up the "I got warned dillema". I was the admin who warned Flyingbox. I had read in the chat that he had been TK'ed, and I responded to him (In Chat), only to not get a response. He said he was TK'd again, by someone else and I asked if it was accidental and sitll no response. Everytime he complained about being teamkilled, I replied, but to get no response. After the nth time, I warned him for complaining and NOT giving me enough information to solve the problem. Just wanted to clear that up. Now, out of the admins we have on the server, I am probably the MOST reliable to theBeaz's server rules and I ONLY kick for things worthy, and I warn people when necessary, and here I did feel the need to warn you.
Please understand, Flyingbox, it's nothing against you or other players, I did my best to help you get rid of the TKing.
To my knowledge, most players enjoy my company on the server and I love to be there with them, trying to help everyone have a great place to play.
Well... with the possible exception of if you're kicking our asses.
Since this was directly following my post, I feel as if I should reply to it (incase it was directed at me).
I'm glad you run your server. It is nice to have a place for new guys, and a place for vets to relax when they just want to have fun or do stupid things.
It sounds like you are addressing some of the problems with your server, but I'll quote myself from another thread: I realize it is hard to find admins, and not a fun job (I used to be an admin on Last Gasp, and prior to that a few other servers), but it can really save the game sometimes.
You might also want to allow people to change teams (to make them uneven by numbers). There have been several times where, by chance, my team had the top five players in the game, I would have switched to help even things, but that would have made the numbers unbalanced.
It may happen on occasion, but not usually. If it is a problem, allow the teams to be slightly uneven (like 2 or 3 players).
As for Team Damage, it is a must.
Sometimes it comes in handy, and it stops people from spamming (which keeps the game from being fun/skilled).
Agreed and also team damage off creates additional problems like:
1. The tank mortar, 3 HOF, satcheled flag defense.
2. The carpet bombing, tank mortar, HO spamming flag carrier escort. This maneuver is designed to obliterate enemy chasers while leaving our flag carrier and escorts un-harmed.
3. I've been tked alot by mortar turrets and friendly fire in general; I always apologise when I accidently hurt or kill a teammate. Lately I've been tempted to swap out the mortar turrets with AA or missile if my team has them up.
Then this ass comes out of nowhere and lands in my bomber and flies away, while I'm standing beside it. My keyboard just happened to die right that second or I would have let him have it.
The second was if you stay on the vehicle pad for more than two seconds they start spamming move please over and over and then they shoot your craft with a spinfusor or shocklance. All because they wanted to grab shrikes before anyone else. That pisses me off. Clearly the entire server was filled with noobs last night.
My question is, when you spawn a heavy vehicle and there is nowhere for it to go except out. Is it approriate to keep it at the pad until it is full and ready to go? Or should you take it outside and risk it so as to not hold up other vehicles from being spawned. Keep in mind that taking it outside exposes it to danger from enemy fire or being stolen, and completely wastes a perfectly good vehicle.
People need to have some patience when at the vpad. It's not Tribes 1 where the vehicle would spawn near-instantaneously. That animation sequence drags things out a bit, and beyond that the new vehicle generally needs to be loaded. At the same time, forming a line behind the vehicle sta is somewhat silly, as instead of waiting in line for a vehicle, you could be out actually helping the team fend off attackers.
