Is the server patch you refer to at scp server? They activated the anticheat and so you have to have a certain additional file.

There aren't any dedicated kata servers today, but that doesn't mean you couldn't host one if you wanted to. Also, you could always join a server and vote kata into play. Assuming you've installed tribesnext and have it working and so on and so forth.

As an anecdote, when the game came out the fastest pc at the cafe I worked at was a piii 450, it had a tnt2 vid card and played t2 well enough. The hardware specs of your lappie are far higher than what the game calls for. The game was written when a nvidia gf3 and a 1GHz cpu were current, so very low spec systems can usualy play the game just fine.
