Problems logging in and creating an account

I registered an account and played just fine for a while, but once I stopped playing I was unable to log in again.

I read a post where people reported they were able to retrieve their account but unable to login. I cannot do either. I receive the error "Credential download failed, check your username/password" when I try to retrieve my account.

When I select my name from the pulldown list and tried to login with my password I get the message "The password you entered is not correct. Try again." I know my password. The only explanation I can think of is that I typed it wrong twice, but that seems highly unlikely. I already tried enabling caps-lock in case that was on when I first entered my password.

I also tried to create a new account just so I could play but now I get the following error: "The Authentication Server understood your request, but chose not to fulfill it."

You can only create one account per week with a maximum of five (this limit is by IP).

As for your password problem, what type of encryption did you use?
  • Sorry, I neglected to mention I used RSA-512.
  • Why not go to the Gamedata folder, change the public.store file to a .txt document and look at what your password is?

Because ~/GameData/public.store does not have the password in plaintext. Nor does ~/GameData/private.store

I'll go fishing in the other configuration and resource files, but so far I am under the impression that Tribes does not store the password in plaintext at all.

Your impression is correct. The password is discarded the moment after it is used to decrypt the private RSA exponent during the login process.

This does sound like a case of a wrong password though. If you can't log in and you can't retrieve the credentials, then the password isn't the same as the one entered during creation.
