The average noob isn't going to play to win right off the bat. They're going to think "I heard this game has planes", and they're going to want to hop into a flyer. A noob isn't going to know how to play to win. I want to at least give them a chance to see some of the stuff in the game, and if that means I'll spend ten…

Hey hey... I know that the little tags aren't that much, but it's fun to have a group with the matching letters/numbers/&@^! combinations at the beginning of their names.

The best I can say is that if you feel you're a decent player, and you see your own team crushing the opposition, switch. So what if you've just capped twice in a row, and the other team is still sitting at zero points? The other team could obviously use your help. You can be on the opposing team but still be playing with…

Someone turned this on just last week on a lakrabbit server.

I believe in learning the basics before anything else. The basics being the base assets, the weapons, the packs, etc... I find that knowing what the enemy has in his hand or on his back and what it does when I'm raping them is pretty important information. Now if you've got someone showing you exactly how things work,…

Yeah, that's what I thought I was reading. I wanted to be specific. Like I said, never moderated a tourney before, so I won't be of much use there. Seeing mousemod attempting to make a comeback, I'll probably be over there quite a bit anyways. What can I say? The mod has it's flaws, but I knew everyone on the server. It'll…

I disagree. Learning to ski effectively as an HO is a pretty damned intensive lesson. I think repairs should be the first learned position, since it gives the player time to learn the base assets, and learn how important they are. Knowing which assets you need to have up most also teaches which ones are best to take down.…

I've modded two servers in the past, never looked in on a tourney. I think you're doing okay on general moderators so far though.

I'm just going to stick to the basics. But I might take a peak at that. I wasn't too impressed with legions personally. Looks pretty. Yeah, I already said it was a cheap shot. Still, I think the primary thing that keeps older games going is all in the mods. Ever played The Specialists for Half Life? If not, you should.…

Holy crap! It's ListerD! Sup?

No, I suggested we have a group of players with a tag that designates them as an obvious newbie friendly player that can be asked questions by newbies. It has nothing to do with being a team of players working together and learning from one another. There's no tryouts, no team play, no clan advancement, nothing like that.…
-
It was a cheap shot. It'd be nice if we could get some clan/tribe/team/whateveryouwannacallit support back in. We could organize a semi official group of players with a HELPER clan tag. A player has a question, they could ask anyone with the HELPER tag. The point behind this is two-fold, it will give the newbs an obvious…

Organize the pubs around a concept. Not directly attempting to get the players on a pub to organize. That means for the experienced players to be willing to stop playing for a few minutes to help out some of the new players. As for the success of games from the shelf... You're absolutely right! That's why the Grand Theft…

Just a small note here: As of this moment, this forum pretty much represents the Tribes 2 community. It appears that a very small portion of this forum is more interested in competition than Tribes 2 as a game. Now, the competitive mindset concerning Tribes 2 definitely doesn't start that way. It starts off as a "hey, this…

The numberpad is used to select your loadouts. Each number represents a different loadout, and each can be customized to suit your needs/play style. You can choose a loadout, then hit numpadenter to change the loadout's weapons, pack, grenades, or even the armor.

Checking now. Joined up, it's loading. My room mate is downloading something, so it's killing my connection right now. Yep, up and running Katabatic. edit: Interesting, when I left the server, it was no longer appearing on my list. All I did was change the map.

What I mean, is that the game server would be the one updating the information. If it's on a per server basis, you'd have quite a barrier preventing players from falsifying the scores. The game server would have to have an appropriate mod to track all the pertinent information though.

Shortcircuit can be fun. Defending on that map gets pretty heated. It's a map that lends itself very seriously to a focused, strong defense. The roles are kinda switched around because of the nature of the map. And getting the cap in involves a quick focused attack by the capping team. One of the few maps you'll see where…

That's actually a map I'm not very fond of. I've played something very similar where the bases were very close to each other, and there were forcefields blocking off the gen room that were connected to other gens (solar panels on top of the base IIRC. Made it quite a bit more fun.

Cool. Do it!

I like the idea of the time and date algorythm, as it's a simple function to make sure the map is always different. The downside is that no one could say "Hey, I really liked that last map, let's play it again!" Or, maybe they could? Maybe a part of the mod could add in a function to "save" a map with a single keypress. It…

Heh, of all people. :D Yeah, it's a solid concept, could use some work. Your idea is a way to simplify things quite elegantly. Maybe a central drop zone in the map... it would stay highly contested, keep the carnage going. Custom maps would solve some of the complications, but it'd be nice if it could be implemented into…

If it's an officialized system, stat tracking could be enabled from the server itself. Download the proper mod, the server could update its information once a day or something.
-
I've always been curious if it would be possible to create a CTF map with a script that would randomize the map with each play. Download the map (mod?) once, then join a server and the server would send the information to the client on how to set the map. Considering that the terrain file can be turned into a simple…

I had an idea for a gametype that I think would rock a few years back, be a bit different from the same ol' CTF, and would actually benefit from the no flag concept... Ever played that old Atari game Scorched Earth? It's a two player game where two tanks would take turns firing at one another. You would shoot by choosing…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ6j16ilUK0&fmt=18 Looking at it now, all I can think is, "Looks almost as good as Crysis".
-
I honestly think a gametype could be made that's basically CTF without the flag, and players would still have fun. Think about it... Ignore the fact that the flag is on some of these maps (Thin Ice, Archipelago), and suddenly the complaints disappear.

I think arguing balance when concerning an FPS such as Tribes 2 is pretty self defeating. The reason why T2 shines so much is because the lack of balance. Now I know you might be scratching your heads here, wondering what I'm talking about.... Played some of the newer FPS games? Halo 2 anyone? The skill level caps off…

My favorite mod is Tribes 2.
