Okay, so then we first need a concerted effort to get EVERYONE to create accounts on Digg. iirc, It's best to have pre-existing accounts, and at least *some* activity "digging" other articles, before we push the TribesNext article, so it isn't seen as what-it-is, a concerted effort :-) It would be ideal if a forum admin…

At the time of that post, I was unaware that Sierra had sold the IP rights to Tribes 2. I'll bet GarageGames would be interested in getting it on Steam tho
-
I will say, while I enjoy Tribes 2, I do miss Tribes 1 (especially on a fully modded server). nostalgia I reckon, tho it probably wouldn't be as fun as i remember, lol
-
did you apply the TribesNext patch?
-
well, it says that they own the entire Tribes IP, which suggests tribes 1, 2, vengeance, etc. so likely after they release tribes 1 (to generate buzz?) they'll start on tribes 2... you'd think...
-
awesome that that is even possible tho. dunno if they'd be able to do tribes 2 tho. i'd be interested to see that
-
just looked at Legends, and omg, Tribes 2 has better graphics, lmfao :-)

Is there any benchmark system that can be used to determine what machine should be capable of running max settings? My machine for instance: AMD 64 x2 Dual Core 5000+ 4gb ram AMD 780G chipset, using onboard ATI HD 3200 with up to 1gb ram alotted Granted, I'm using an onboard video chipset (but a high quality one at that),…

An upgraded appearance would be awesome, but also an effort to improve performance is key (as Tribes 2 has never been a very optimized game, as far as I can tell). Any thoughts on if that's possible?
-
Exactly, that's why we need "integrity" to reduce the multiple accts to just one per person

NSIS, that's it (aka nullsoft) :-) For the GSI installer, you would ideally wrap that specifically with NSIS. NSIS would just launch the GSI installer (which would be packaged internally, not downloaded, as NSIS wouldn't download as fast as torrent and/or a download accelerator program). Then once it's detected completion…

Only for the old features that were previously disabled, such as the in-game browser, t-mail, etc. Those were great features that improved the community-feel of Tribes 2, so it'll be nice to have them back

Anyone remember the name of that free installer software (open-source)? Name starts with an N i believe, can't remember what it's called... But yeah, it's a great alternative to InstallShield, it's good software, would do the job nicely I believe.

Here's a thought: How about getting Tribes somehow listed on Steam? I wonder if there's any way that could be worked out... I know it's a long shot, and would most likely require involvement from Sierra (which might be best to just leave them alone), but that would be awesome though... Really, I don't see why Valve/Steam…
-
Eolk, how? Do you link to a generic URL, or do you update the tracker somehow, or what? Just curious :-)
-
re: integrity I hadn't thought of that, but that's actually a good point. It would be handy to have some way of uniquely identifying users, i.e. - SteamID, which can then be used to trace any names that player has played under. The practice of playing under multiple names is called smurfing, and while it might not be a big…

I'm not saying modify the GSI installer itself, just have the installer *alongside* a readme file, which gives the location to get the current patch ;-) EDIT: Or even better, create an installer that encloses the GSI installer (if that's legal, since it's not being modified). The wrapper installer would install Tribes as…

Using an ATI chipset? That's quite interesting. Any idea of whether or not you have OpenGL installed as well with the driver? (one way to find out, if you have the Catalyst package as well, is to right-click on desktop, launch catalyst, go advanced, and then view Information, which should list OpenGL's version, if any)
-
that's a good idea, any others? :-) I think something that would be helpful, is to create an article on Digg and/or Slashdot about TribesNext and the free game. Then make a concerted effort to have EVERYONE in this community "digg" the article, leave comments, etc... That would pick up some attention 8)
-
Could just pack GSI with a readme that says: That would reduce the need to keep repacking the torrent...
-
hmm? flag you say? .... I was wondering what that colored toothpick was :-)
-
Awesome, thanks for that link, cleared it up for me :-)
-
What is an example of a valid error message that points to this issue?
-
I agree it's still their intellectual property, but I stick to my prior statement :-) btw, I thought this patch modifies their .exe, so how is that not considered a modification of their code? and future versions will be turning old features back on I'm not trying to pick an argument, btw, I'm legitimately curious and…

Awesome, nice to see the in-game features are being brought back! (like in-game browser, t-mail, etc). Those were features I really thought were innovative (talk about pre-empting Steam), but they killed them early on... idiots...
-
screw Sierra, as someone else pointed out, they dropped support for Tribes, they fired the Tribes developers, screwed over the community by shutting down the master servers, etc etc etc...
